Cybersecurity Governance And Policy Pathway
**Abertay University is currently delivering the last of its Governance and Policy courses under the current programme, and we are unable to accept new applications.**
**This is now available as an IBM SkillsBuild course until May 2025**
This Cybersecurity Governance and Policy course is delivered in partnership with Abertay University and provides students with an understanding of the challenges and complexities within cyberspace.
Students will explore various aspects of cyber security, from both technical and non-technical threats through to offensive, defensive and resilience approaches to cyber defence.

Upon completion of this module, you (the student) will be able:
- To determine the challenges to cyberspace.
- To critically evaluate vulnerabilities, threats to cyberspace, and developing solutions and countermeasures.
- To formulate policy-based solutions and processes, involving both technology and human factors to develop and continually improve cyber security
Over the course of seven weeks, students will explore topics such as cyber crime, cyber warfare, cyber weapons, defensive strategies, and the role of technology and people in cyber security. By the end of the course, students will not only have a solid grasp of cyber security fundamentals but also be capable of formulating informed policy solutions to address contemporary cyber security challenges. Our online learning platform offers a dynamic study environment, with tutor-led sessions for additional support.
Our Pathways programme is tailored for members of the Armed Forces community and ex-police offiers, providing accessible, remote learning opportunities. With no costs to learners, our courses offer a valuable pathway to professional development and certification.

We’re delighted to partner with Abertay University in the provision of this Cybersecurity Governance and Policy Pathway course.
The course is designed to help people with military security training and experience develop their understanding of this growing and increasingly important part of the digital and cyber landscape.
This ‘pathway to employment’ programme is designed to provide members of the Armed Forces community (serving personnel, former members of the Armed Forces, and spouses) and ex-police officers with access to the world of cyber security, its key concepts, and provide a practical application to real-world problems.
It’s a 3 stage process:
- Application and selection; completion of pre-course training (no knowledge required)
- Cybersecurity Governance and Policy Pathway course (20-25 hours per week of study or practical time)
- Work Placement or Employment (where appropriate)
If you’re a competent IT user, willing to learn and have an interest in Python coding, the future of computing and our interactions with increasingly complex computer systems, then this is for you. And it’s FREE – no need to use up ELC or IRTC grants and no course fees.
